Chinese Take-out Boxes

Step one:

This tutorial will focus on the pen tool, use it to model an image of a basic chinese food box in 3D prespective.

Start with the front side, select pen tool and turn on paths. All you have to do is connect dots to draw the shape.

Fill path #AAAAAA.


Step two:

Next up are two fold on the front side. We have to make each piece in different layers and colors so create a new layer and draw the left side in #E6E6E6.

Add a drop shadow layer style to give the piece some dept.

Drop Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #000000 Opacity: 18 Angle: 148 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance: 1 Spread: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Step three:

Finish the front side with the right piece, draw it in #BABABA.

Add a drop shadow layer style.

Drop Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #FFFFFF Opacity: 42 Angle: -38 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance: 1 Spread: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Step four:

The left side of the box is #AAAAAA.


Step five:

Now were going to add the logo on the left side. With the pen tool, draw a #8E3534 rectangle in a new layer.

Set your background color to AAAAAA.

Go to Filter > Distort > Glass > Add this settings:

Glass

Distortion: 2
Smoothness: 2
Texture: Frosted
Scaling: 86
Invert: Uncheck

Step six:

The box will have an open look. We will add four pieces to achieve this look so start with the left side, draw the shape you see below.

Add a drop shadow layer style.

Drop Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #BABABA Opacity: 75 Angle: 135 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance:2 Spread: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Step seven:

Now add a lid shape with color #000000.

Add food textures through pattern overlay. In this case I used a liquid looking texture which came with PS 7.0.

Color Overlay Color Blend Mode: Color Color: #554400 Opacity: 100

Pattern Overlay Pattern Blend Mode: Normal Opacity: 100 Pattern: Picture below Scale: 100

Step eight:

Draw the front fold in #F9F9F9.

Add a Drop and Inner shadow:

Inner Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #585858 Opacity:13 Angle: 144 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance: 1 Choke: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Drop Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #B2B2B2 Opacity: 100 Angle: 120 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance: 1 Spread: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Step nine:

Create a new layer under the front fold layer, were going to add 2 pieces behind the front fold.

First make the right piece, create the shape seen on the picture guide and fill path #F9F9F9.

Add a drop shadow layer style:

Drop Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #B2B2B2 Opacity: 100 Angle: 120 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance: 1 Spread: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Step ten:

The last piece of the box, draw it in #F9F9F9. Remember to draw the shape behind the front fold layer.

Add an inner shadow layer style:

Inner Shadow Structure Blend Mode: Normal Color: #E6E6E6 Opacity:100 Angle: 135 Use Global Light: Uncheck Distance: 1 Choke: 0 Size: 0 Quality Contour: Default Anti-aliased: Uncheck Noise: 0

Finale:

Finish it off by adding shadow and draw the metal holder.
