A little history for those that do not know what a Koru is taken From: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The koru is the Maori name given to the newborn, unfurling fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Maori carving and tattoos. The koru is used in a stylised form as the logo of Air New Zealand and as an iconic symbol of New Zealand flora. New Zealand is a country of two large islands and many smaller islands in the south-western Pacific Ocean. New Zealand is also known as Aotearoa in the Maori language, or the Land of the Long White Cloud. New Zealand is notable for its isolation, being separated from Australia to the northwest by the Tasman Sea, some 2,000 km (1,242 mi) across. Closest neighbours to the north are New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga.
Ok now we all just had our little history lesson on a Koru lets get started.
In this tutorial you will learn how to create a koru in a few easy steps. I will not say create a new canvas as this can be done on a new canvas or on an existing one this is entirely upto you.
Result:
Step 1:
Create a circle (of any size as long as it fits within your canvas)
Step 2:
Split the circle in quarters using shapes (or guides)
Step 3:
Draw a circle that fits into the top-left quarter.
Step 4:
Now draw a circle that is about 3/4 the size of the original circle and align as you see below:
Step 5:
Using the pen tool, trace around the shape you have createdso that it resembles the image below.
After a few more additions the end result could be:
Now that you have the basic koru shape you could add blending options to bring it to life.
